  My recent research (and rekindling of interest in JWs) was prompted when I moved to a new area and became friendly with a JW family. If you go to my 'post history' it's set out in the 'Advice' thread I started.

  Sadly, recently I have had little contact with the family. Partly that's through circumstances but I do wonder (from what I've learned here) if they've recognised that I am not going to convert to WTism and would only have been Bad Association. I smoke, visit bars and restaurants on a daily basis and fornicate a little from time to time.

  Oh, and in general terms I don't like bullies, and there seem to be some very good people here who have suffered at the hands of WTBTS.

  the rabbit drinks the beer and eats the toastie, he then leaves.. .

  the following night the rabbit returns and again asks for a pint of beer and a ham and cheese toastie.

  I have only just heard this one, but I'm told it's an old Aussie joke.

  Man walks into the bedroom with a sheep under his arm. His wife is in bed.

  "Darling" he says "This is the pig I have sex with when you have a headache".

  Wife says "Excuse me, dumbo, that's a sheep not a pig".

  Husband says to wife "Excuse me, I wasn't talking to you".

  i've changed my avatar, 'cos after a few comments on here about me being an 'old man' i realised that some people thought my old one was a pic of me.

  it wasn't (honest) it ws a scan of a postcard.

  i'm not that old (50).. so now, i'll use a pic of the car instead.

  This Past Sunday My Wife Took Me To The Elders!

  early sunday morning, around 1:30 a.m., my wife wakes me and says that she can't sleep and needs to talk with me.

  i say ok and she proceeds to tell me that she wants a seperation.

  i was hurt, but not shocked, because our relationship is not that close at this point after 14 yrs of marriage.

  I hope you won't mind if I comment as an outsider.

  You've been married 14 years, you have children. You love your wife. She loves you (or at least she does but this JW stuff is intervening).

  You have something, far more stable and lasting IMHO than the JWs, WTBTS, elders, whatever, can ever be, because (from an outsider's point of view) the religion is based on shifting sands.

  Do whatever you can (and I appreciate in an academic way it's not easy, never experienced it) to keep the religion out of it. Tell them lies, threaten them, whatever. Go to marriage counselling, and if you can, find somebody who knows about manipulative cults. There must be someone here who can give you recommendations. If not, PM me and I'll find someone for you from 5000 miles away.

  If you love your wife and your kids, then fight for them, I say, and fight to keep your marriage and family together.

  Sorry if this sounds simplistic. But honestly, really, the love of a family can overcome anything.

  My 1st time in a KH

  i went to my first kh 3 sundays ago and was quite suprised that they we'ren't pushy.

  in fact, no one even spoke except the man in front who let me borrow his songbook.

  i am a christian and always have been to church.

  Berean vs. Free Bible Study - a recent reversal?

  the early group around russell studied the bible by reading it, discussing it and drawing conclusions.

  when russell reached firm conclusions on various matters he began to be a bit down on this method of bible study for his followers.

  instead the brethren should stick to reading the studies in the scriptures or wt studies (of questions with cited scriptures) rather than reading the bible alone.

  I guessed that that would be what would happen, because my friends knew I was researching on-line, that English was not their first language, and because (thanks to this site) I knew what was in their mags as soon as they did.

  Sorry, I wasn't trying to minimise anybody's suffering.

  If there was a real case of disablement, I'd be happy to pay for a wheelchair or whatever.

  But if WTBTS is using these sort of stories fraudulently (and god knows, there are enough real stories of tragedy in the world already) then they need to be exposed.

  And I am no bible scholar or academic, but one of the few skills I have is exposing liars/bullies/extortioners.
